Chapter Six

Anjula sat straight up. She glanced around to get her bearings.

It took her a minute to remember where she was. She fell asleep on the couch; at some point in the evening Jin Woo must have moved them to the bedroom. The spacious bed was empty, and he wasn’t in the room.

She crawled off the bed and padded toward the large window to slip her fingers through the blinds. It was still dark outside but something woke her up; it sounded like yelling. She walked to the door and opened the door a mere slit.

“You are a fucking jerk!” A woman screamed.

Thuds followed the words. Anjula reared back; who the hell would come to Jin Woo’s house at this time of morning? She eased through the crack.

“Calm down, I was going to tell you earlier, but I got busy.” There was a thread of stillness to his tone. “Stop throwing shit, Bai Lin.”

She stopped. Her best friend didn’t lose her temper without reason.

“I moved to another damn continent to get away from him. And you bring him here!”

Anjula walked into the room. Jin Woo stood at the counter shirtless, a mug of coffee in his hand. Bai Lin was rooted ay the kitchen’s entrance, her chest quickly rising and falling. A vase was clutched in her fist. Anjula glanced around at the broken dishes which littered the floor.

“I swear if I thought I could take you, people would think we were filming the fight scene from a kung fu movie in here,” Bai growled.

“At least you’re not stupid.” Jin Woo took a sip of his beverage.

The vase flew toward his head and he ducked. He snatched the cell up. “Keep it up, cousin, and I will call Jay to come get your crazy ass.”

Bai Lin’s eyes narrowed. “To hell with it!”

No way was their confrontation going to end well.

Anjula rushed up to her bestie, grabbing her by the arm. “Bai, girl, what brings you by?”

Her buddy twisted to stare at her and blinked several times.

Jin Woo set the cup down and marched up to her, broken dishware crunching under his foot. He looked down at her before sweeping her up in his arms. “Why do the women in my life not think? Do you not see glass on the floor?”

He shook his head, mumbling in Korean. “Park Bai Lin. Clean up your mess and get out of my house.” He carried Anjula in to the great room and set her on the couch.

She glanced over at her friend. Bai Lin stomped through the kitchen, speaking Korean in low tones that sounded like curses. “What was that all about?”

“My cousin is a little upset with me. She will get over it.” He dropped into the seat next to her and pulled her into his lap. “I’m sorry we woke you up.”

“It’s okay.” Anjula checked her watch. “There’s time for Bai to take me home to get ready for work.” She leaned forward to get up. “I’ll go help Bai straighten up.
